Caution is the Best Cure

DIY work is fun, educational, extremely satisfying, and more and more people are opting to do DIY work. DIY work can teach us varied and valuable skills, both physical as well as mental. It is a rewarding experience and can also save us a lot of money, sometimes enough for a holiday! But before you head out to Purchase Foreign Currency , here are some basic rules of DIY that everyone should follow.

Precaution is much much better than cure, especially when you are dealing with power tools and saws. In all seriousness, it is important to follow safety instructions on all the tools you use. It is also important to follow guidelines while using the tools.

It is always a bad idea to make a tool do something that it is not designed for. If something does not feel right, it is probably wrong and forcing it will not do any good. For example, while cutting wood or metal, never cut a piece that you cannot hold down properly. Cutting very small parts can make them fly around and result in injury. (more...)

Do it Yourself with Complaints

Every company that has ever opened its doors (virtual or real) has had to deal with customer complaints. In the past, companies would often ignore these complaints or they might offer a replacement product if they were feeling especially generous. Oh, how times have changed. These days, consumers have a lot more power.

Not only can they write a negative review and post it on a review site, but they can also file a bank complaint. These complaints are commonly known as chargebacks and they have been a thorn in the side of many online businesses. The reason for this is simple: when an online business is charged for a chargeback, they have to provide a full refund to the customer plus pay a penalty to their bank or service provider.

As you might expect, it is in a company's best interest to deal with these issues right away before they progress to the point where a customer demands an expensive chargeback. What can a company do? (more...)

Solving a Customer Complaint on Your Own

Before the advent of the internet, customers had few options when they purchased a defective product or received substandard service. Essentially, they were at the mercy of the company. If the customer was lucky, he might be offered a replacement product or a discount on a future purchase. In rare cases, he might receive a refund. Often, he was simply ignored.

But as we said, things have changed. The first thing to remember when you are dissatisfied with a product or service is that the internet is your friend. Huge review sites give customers the ability to post their own product reviews. And since negative reviews can affect a company's reputation and even their sales, they are far more likely to listen to customer with a legitimate complaint. Where to start? Contact the company directly and explain the problem. More often than not, their representatives will apologise for the lackluster product or service and offer a replacement or a refund. If you are not interested in a replacement, ask for a refund instead.

In rare cases, the customer service department will give you the run around. They may ask you to provide proof of purchase. This is a simple dilatory tactic. In the end, they are hoping that you will get tired and simply give up. Do not! Send them a copy of your receipt registered mail. If they do not respond, call them and let them know that you are contacting a consumer protection agency. There are dozens of them on the internet. This should be enough to scare them into issuing you an immediate refund. In rare cases, consumers may be forced to contact a solicitor. Of course, this is only if the product or services was expensive.
